A few months ago, I had just finished setting up a website online for a friend of mine. After the website successfully online for several weeks. An email came to the official email address of the domain. The emails came from a domain registration company from china. The email looks something similar to below :
The purpose of the email was that, Company X requested to register the domain name as their trademark. I had to deal and negotiate with the domain registration company since my friends is not well versed with technology terms. The email conversation continued for several days and the company was willing to register my friends domain as his own trademark while the rest domain rights will be given to the Company X.
The service was offered with a sum of money which has to be paid for the processing fees, legal fees and etc. We decided to quit from the deal due to high cost. I thought thats the end of the chapter but then i was greeted with similar email for few other domains that my client/friends owns. Only at the point, I realized that the domain registration company was deploying this tactics to lure the domain owners into subscribing their service.
The domain name which they said were going to be registered for their client’s company is still available for registration. They were only targeting the corporate/SME companies domain while commercial domains and less popular domains are not targeted. The commercial domain here includes blogs, social network site, service site and etc.
If you ever received any email’s which sounds similar to the above email (check screenshot), first check the company’s background and Google up some info before negotiating with them. You may also decline to reply and they will hunt for other domain, if there is no reply from you side
